FOOD PRODUCT OF THE YEAR 2020 – as voted by the Danish health stores

We were super excited that our Sea Salt flavour was recently voted the Best Food Product of the year 2020 by the Danish Health stores.

Since 2014 this bar has had a very loyal following and has also won 6 awards at the Great Taste Awards.

We were so delighted to have just won 9 awards at this year’s Great Taste Awards.

Here is what the Great Taste Awards Judges had to say about our chocolate

Panama   2-Stars Great Taste Awards 2020

"Good dark bar with a great snap that melts beautifully to deliver really complex flavours. The natural hint of bitterness is complemented with fruity, tobacco and even coffee overtones that slowly work their way around the mouth in a most pleasing and delicious fashion. The finish is long, lingering and equally complex."

Orange  1-Stars Great Taste Awards 2020

“A luxurious looking, richly dark, even coloured bar with gentle shine and a satisfying snap. Rich bittersweet cocoa, with fresh almost herbal notes, contrasts with the gentle sweet orange with its oils from the skin adding further flavour and character. Simple but carefully developed flavours that are true to their origin. Just cacao and orange. Well done. Simply delicious!”

Mint - 1 Star Great Taste Awards 2020

“The peppermint pieces were deliciously crunchy and provided an interesting texture contrast to the frmness of the chocolate. The chocolate was perfectly bittersweet with a good balance of acidity. There was a good ratio of peppermint to chocolate making this a well balanced, well favoured product.”

Sea Salt - 1 Star Great Taste Awards 2020 “There is a great crunch as you bite into it - lots of lovely sea salt caramel brightening up the palate. The salt was very enjoyable and balanced well within the chocolate. The caramel crunch isn’t overly sweet and complements the chocolate well. All in all, this is a well balanced and delicious, not too bitter on the finish with a well-judged balance between the salt and sweetness. The salty finish left us craving more.”

Note for editors:

This year there were 12,777 products sent in from 106 different countries. Judged by 144 of the most discerning palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs, buyers, retailers and producers, as well as food writers and journalists, Great Taste is the most coveted of all food and drink awards. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakeable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to an outstanding product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind tasting.

Recognised as a stamp of excellence among consumers and retailers alike, Great Taste values taste above all else, with no regard for branding and packaging. Whether it is cake, coffee, kippers or kombucha being judged, all products are removed from their wrapper, jar, box or bottle before being tasted. The judges then savour, confer and re-taste to decide which products are worthy of an award.

The judges are looking for great texture and appearance. They judge the quality of ingredients and how well the maker has put the food or drink together. But above all, they are looking for truly great taste.

With the challenges of lockdown, and then social distancing, the Guild of Fine Food had to adapt the judging process this year.
